Hi!

Mein MacPro 1,1 wurde vorgestern plötzlich grauenhaft langsam
und beim Bearbeiten von großen Bildern, ging fast gar nix mehr vorwärts.
Also habe ich den halben Tag nach der Ursache geforscht und bin drauf gekommen, dass die zusätzlichen Speicherriegel von 2x2Gig micht mehr
erkannt werden und er nur noch mit den ursprünglich eingebauten
2x 512 mb rechnet.

Habe ich also etwas rum genackelt und wieder gestartet und dann
ging es kurz wieder mit den beiden 2Gig bis er dann ganz abstürzte.
Nach dem Restart erkennt re nun die "Gig Riegel nicht mehr und eine
rote LED leuchtet auf der Platine, wo die Dinger drin stecken.

Kann ich nun davon ausgehen, dass die RAM Riegel (oder einer)
kaputt sind? Wie kann ich da sicher gehen?
Wenn da 1 LED leuchtet, ist dann auch nur ein Riegel defekt?

Ich möchte halt jetzt nicht neuene Ram bestellen, um dann festzustellen,
dass was ganz anderes hin ist.

Du könntest ja auch ein neues Mainboard bestellen, um festzustellen, dass es *nur* der RAM Riegel war... ;-)

Die Vorgehensweise um einen oder mehrere kaputte RAM-Riegel zu ermitteln, liegt in einem halbwegs intelligenten Rotationsverfahren. Der 1.1 hat zwei Risercards, die könnten ggf auch mal auf festen Sitz überprüft werden. Du solltest auch mal den Hardwaretest mit der erweiterten RAM Test Funktion durchführen:

Both of the memory riser cards include diagnostic LEDs for each DIMM. Each of the LEDs will light if it detects an issue with the corresponding installed DIMM. These LEDs will also flash briefly when the computer is started up or shut down and when it goes in and out of sleep mode. This is normal behavior.
Troubleshooting: Shutdown and restart the computer.

- Verify EFI and SMC firmware versions and update them if necessary.
- Reseat the memory riser card associated with the failure LED. If the failure LED persists, continue with the next step.
- Swap upper and lower memory riser cards A and B. If the symptoms follow the riser card, continue with the next step. If the failure LED remains associated with the same memory riser card slot, consider a possible connection issue with the logic board. Replace the logicboard in this case.

- Swap affected DIMM with known good DIMM.
- Try moving DIMM to another slot (within the same bank of two) to see if the failure LED, follows the DIMM. If so, replace DIMM with known good DIMM. If the failure LED persists,replace the memory riser card associated with the failure LED

Hardwaretest habe ich gemacht: Alles ok.

Puh! Halbwegs intelligente Verfahren sind ja so gar nicht mein Ding!
Habe es aber trotzdem mal versucht:

Nachdem die rote Diode immer auf dem Platz eines bestimmten Riegels aufleuchtet, auch wenn ich sie umstecke, gehe ich jetzt mal davon aus,
dass schlicht der Riegel defekt ist.
Und bestelle da mal Neuen.

Wenn ich bedenke, dass 1 Gig vor einer Weile noch unvorstellbar
viel Speicher war und mein Rechner nun durchdreht, wenn er
mit nur 1 Gig Speicher laufen soll...
