Hi,
I am having a problem with fonts in Freehand. I have installed Freehand MX on my PC at home, and I do not have some special characters that are very frequent in slovenian, although I have them in Microsoft Word and everything was ok untill now.

What kind of font do you use? Is it Truetype, OpenType or PostScript-Type-1?

You say there is no problem using that font in MS Word. What version of MS Word do you use?

Unfortunately I have no FreeHand MX for XP at hand to test that but I think the origin of your problem lies in the not-so-perfect capability of FreeHand to read out all unicode type characters.

So far: DO NOT PANIC. ;-)

Hello Uwe,

Fonts are Truetype and I have Microsoft Office 2000. But I had no problems with those fonts when I was using Freehand 8.

What is EXACTLY happening to the fonts in FreeHand MX? Are you getting blank characters when output on paper? Wrong characters instead?

Do you use any font management tool like Suitcase?

You see you have to specify your problem a bit more.

One remedy or trick when problems with printing the right characters at all is to convert the text passages to pathes. But I think you already know that.
Another one is to update the program to the most recent version. Maybe it's a bug that is resolved by now.

I do not have blank characters but other letters instead of them. I do not use any font management program. I have thought of installing Adobe Type Manager but I should also try with a newer version of a programme first.

Hi, Nina!

I think the problem lies in the interaction of your Truetype font, the specific language settings of your operating system AND of course FreeHand MX.

If you can provide me with the language settings, a sample FreeHand file, both FreeHand 8 and MX PLUS your Truetype font OFF forum by mail, I could test that special behaviour of FreeHand MX on my Mac OSX (for FreeHand MX) and OS9 (for FreeHand 8).

Additionally provide me with versions of FreeHand files where ALL texts are converted to paths so I can cross check the font issues regarding to MAC-PC / PC-MAC problems.

My version of FreeHand MX is 11.0.2 build92.

Of course I will DELETE all your material including the fonts after testing.

in corel, there was a function for an automatic keyboard
layout change (by choosen language). pls. check if there
is a similar option in freehand. (may be in "preferences"
or - as in corel - in the type menu).

unfortunately there is no such function in Freehand. I belive that my Freehand has a bug, because I had no such problems in Freehand 8 or 9 only when I have installed MX.
